Agent-based Modelling of Civilization Rise and Fall

I did some gig work for Richard Bookstaber. Richard participated in the Princeton Working Group on Collapse, and wrote a chapter in the forthcoming book Collapse, edited by Miguel Centeno, publishing by Routeledge Press. He wanted to have some basic quantitative models to back up the ideas he is presenting. I adapted one of his previous agent-based models to be conceptually consistent with civilization rise and fall. I had to familiarize myself with a Python agent-based model, alter its rules to create new network structures (a tree structure is shown to the right), run the various models numerous times (model runs took 16+ hrs), and create graphics and statistics of the results for publication.

My work will be credited in footnote. Below are some samples of the model results.
